Mr. Chaffin has been directly involved in C-TPAT processes for the past four years. He successfully obtained C-TPAT validation for the largest importer of hardwood plywood in the U.S. This involved:
- A supply chain of imports from two Muslim countries (Malaysia and Indonesia)
- The first plywood importer validated under C-TPAT
- This company was one of the first 600 that have been validated out of the 10,000 applicants as of late 2006
- Fifty different suppliers in four different countries
- Six overseas ports
- Seven U. S. ports of entry
- Multiple ocean carriers, warehouses, and inland carriers overseas and domestically.
The entire process was completed and the company received a Validation Report in November, 2006, and was granted Tier 2 benefits. The report cited several "Best Practices" by the company, its mill and ports. There were no investments required in equipment or facilities and the follow up recommendations and actions required are achievable with little or no additional expense to the company.
Mr. Chaffin also maintains direct contacts within several different departments in U. S. Customs and Border Protection.
